The core of NMI’s manufacturing activities is supplying specialist information to its members. We spend a great deal of effort collating and analysing all sorts of data to highlight areas of best practice, efficiency, capability and high performance. This information frequently provides a vehicle for detailed knowledge exchange at a face-to-face or group level between our members and generates genuine improvements for the participants, a truly unique offering.

We recognise that in our dynamic industry, speed of execution is key, especially during problem solving; hence, a method of challenging current practices can be very powerful – NMI helps to facilitate this process.

Knowledge Exchange

NMI provides a wide range of information, often demand lead from its members. We are frequently involved in a wide range of topics such as:

  • Cost Control
  • Energy Consumption
  • Engineering Procedures and Specialist tool groups
  • Human Resource Procedures
  • Commodity Consumption
  • And many more….

More details are available in the Members area or if you are interested in being part of one of these projects please contact us.

Wafer Fab Benchmark Reports

NMI also provides very detailed wafer fab benchmarking reports, the most recent completed in mid 2008, a study of 15 manufacturing sites. The 2008 study is primarily focused on wafer fab performance and compares information from a similar study from 2005.

The topics covered are:

  • Productivity
  • Mechanical Yield
  • Operational Efficiency
  • Industry Suppliers
  • Human Resources
  • Technical Capability
  • Cycle Time

In addition to analysing comparative data, we studied the methods used to achieve certain performances using a triangulation technique with quantitative and qualitative information again providing unique insights into operational practices. Naturally, we have follow up sessions with participants and explore the learning’s in more detail in group sessions and at an individual site level.

An executive summary is available for this study but the full reports are only available to those who participate and all reports are in an anonymous format.
