Scanwel is honoured to be working with Aberystwyth University on a project the University is involved in. It is part of the international team working on the European Space Agency ExoMars mission – sending Rover to Mars.
The project involves a panoramic camera – ‘PanCam’ – being mounted at the top of the Rover mast. PanCam is the primary science camera, which will return stereo, colour and multispectral images for analysis by the science team. Aberystwyth University has built a calibration target, to provide a colour reference, which will ensure all images are accurate in colour.
To ensure that the performance of the calibration target is accurate when it reaches its ultimate destination, Scanwel has built an environmental wind tunnel to simulate the environment on Mars. This is allowing Aberystwyth scientists to investigate the effects of the Martian environment and dust on the performance of the calibration target.
